Pinwheel Quilt for Blogger’s Quilt Festival

I’ve hesitated putting this quilt up for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival (at Amy’s Creative Side) since I haven’t given it to it’s intended recipient yet. Hopefully she won’t see it here before I give it to her. Shhh….nobody tell her…

I love a pinwheel quilt in any form, but I particularly love the colors and patterns in this one. I’ve found that when the overall quilt pattern is busy and colorful, such as this one, a large border with binding to match can help keep it from becoming ‘too much’. I like the continuity the same fabric binding brings and, for me, it keeps my eye focused on the center of the quilt where all the action is.

The above photo is before washing. The photo below is after, and you can really see the texture. There’s always a debate about whether to pre-wash your fabrics or not.  I choose NOT to pre-wash because I think the crinkled effect is enhanced. I’ve never had a problem with colors bleeding, but you DO have to use quality fabrics. There are many fabrics I stay away from completely, simply because I know they’re going to be trouble.

  1. I really like your pinwheels! I agree with you and I don'w prewash my fabrics too, I like to work with new fabrics. Now I am a bit scared to wash my DJ, probably it won't even fit in the washing mashine:)
